January 11, 2016 – Monday Meeting Recap

The 2016 season is officially here! Saturday’s game reveal broadcast announced this year’s challenge, Stronghold. All FIRST teams were given the difficult task of creating a robot that will win points at competition by breaching enemy defenses,  scoring boulders in the opponent’s tower goals and capturing their castle with the help of robots from other teams.

To start off today’s meeting,Team 4611 broke up into groups to compile a list of obstacles that may appear on the field at the Buckeye Regional competition taking place in March. This included finding the dimensions of each part and materials needed to make it. Team members also collaborated with each other to obtain a better understanding of the game manual itself. The design and fabrication teams have done a tremendous job brainstorming ideas for the future robot. A group of students have also begun to finalize flag and t-shirt designs. In just a few days, the fabrication team has already built a wheel canon! Hard at work, the programming team is continuing to update their software and learn new things about it. Veteran members of the electrical team took the initiative to teach new-comers fundamental engineering skills such as where things are located in the wood shop, how to strip wires, and connect a battery and light to a robot.
