Weekday Build Update: 1/25/2017

Ozone’s team members continue to work with each other to test and modify prototypes.

Electrical team members have begun to do research on visual acquisition. We would like to improve the quality of our visual equipment from last year. Therefore, we are looking at powerful co-processors with GPUs to replace the kangaroo computer, a better camera with a higher FPS and resolution, and a bigger and brighter green LED ring. The quality of the camera has to compliment the quality of the co-processor. Team members also soldered the old LED ring from last year so we can complete tests with it until we have a new setup.

A test board for visual acquisition was created using plexiglas and reflective tape. It was made to scale for the boiler so programmers can accurately test code with it.

A platform was added to our one wheel shooter to allow it to swivel and it was able to be tested today. Programmers pushed code to it to test how fast it would spin. After reducing the speed many times it was still spinning very fast, so the fabrication and programming team made the decision to modify the gear boxes so it will spin slower. Coders also continued working with the pneumatic test board.

Another prototype was tested today, our spinning barrel ball intake. Max metal was added on the sides to keep the balls inside the chassis. Besides the weather stripping falling off towards the end, it works! The barrel spins and when balls are deflected from above they land in the box, which on our final design will be turned into a hopper.

2 other prototypes, one gear grabbing and one ball collecting, continue to be tested and modified.

The drafting team continues to make 3D models of these prototypes.

Tests continue to be made on the gear collecting prototype that is mounted onto last year’s robot, Margo. Gears slide into the mechanism easily with minimal movement from our robot.

We mounted a gear intake prototype and reattached wheels to one of our chassis. Fabrication and electrical members also mounted a gear holding mechanism onto that robot.
